GEORGINA Dawson and Rose Grayson are the creative minds behind boutique interior design company, Studio Yugen.  Concrete Nation took five with the ladies, who pride themselves on an interior-architecure approach, to chat about their current projects, inspirations and key design trends.

Tell us a little bit about the Studio Yugen story?

We established our studio as we wanted to provide people with a great interior design service. Firstly, we see ourselves as problem solvers and then, of course, later having the ability to make things look beautiful. We pride ourselves on our interior architecture approach following through with final decorating details once the layout is considered.

Have you always been interested in design?

Rose and I have both been interested in design from a very young age. For us, it's a lifestyle, everything from travelling to creating recipes to being inspired by a particular colour in nature allows us to constantly stay inspired and keep creating new beautiful interiors.

Can you tell us about some of your more interesting projects?

We were lucky enough to work on a Greenhouse Canteen franchise in Brisbane this year. The space was much bigger than the previous fit outs so we were able to design interesting custom built in furniture options whilst still maintaining the Greenhouse look and feel.

What inspires you?

We're inspired by the everyday - whether it is fashion, nature or a simple piece of artwork.

What projects are you currently working on?

We're working on a handful of residential projects as well as some exciting international projects that will take place later in the year.

What is a key trend in interior design right now?

We're noticing a lot of colour being used in fun, sophisticated new ways as well as soft curves being introduced into new furniture designs.

Who’s work do you admire in your field?

We're both very inspired by Melbourne designers, Flack Studio, and Brisbane based architects Richards and Spence.

What are your thoughts on architectural concrete, and why do you think it has become so popular?

Concrete is a timeless material and, due to its ability to be moulded into any form, it makes it such a versatile, desirable option for bench tops and custom made benches, basins or baths.
