REGULAR visitors to the Northern New South Wales coastal town of Byron Bay would be familiar with the region's most iconic property, Raes.

Perched above the beautiful Wategos Beach, this world-famous luxury boutique resort, spa and restaurant has long attracted the discerning traveller and celebrities like the Rolling Stones and Elle Macpherson.

The 1049 square metre landmark establishment underwent a refreshing refurbishment in 2017, with Sydney-based interior designer Tamsin Johnson transforming the interiors from cluttered and dark to fresh and contemporary.

We recently took a tour of the property and were completely inspired by its fresh new aesthetic, particularly the mixture of paired back, light-filled interiors and natural materials - think rattan, travertine, timber and linen - with eclectic, one-off touches, custom lighting and works by local artists.

With a new General Manager, Francesca Webster, formerly of Halcyon House, now at the helm, Raes' restaurant has also had an overhaul. The result is a beautiful, fresh al fresco space boasting furniture by MCM House and Villa Blanc, vistas over Wategos beach and seasonal fare by Head Chef, Jason Barratt.

There's also the addition of the relaxed Raes Cellar bar and a new-look pool area, where you could easily believe you were chilling in Europe.

Trust us when we say, this is barefoot luxury at its best. Design lovers; allow us to take you on a tour...
