We love an Australian start-up success story and it doesn’t get any more inspiring than the Canva story.

The online design and publishing platform was co-founded by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams in 2012 and now has 15 million users in 190 countries and, according to Forbes, is valued at a staggering US $1 billion.

Needless to say, we were humbled to work with architect Emily Sandstrom of Sandstrom Architects on some bespoke pieces – including a custom reception desk and basins -  for Canva’s new eight-storey headquarters in Sydney’s Surry Hills.

With a background in residential architecture, Sandstrom says she integrated domestic details into the space to create an environment for staff to feel relaxed and at home in a comfortable and warm space.

“The design ethos was underpinned by natural materials, including polished concrete floors, spotted gum, brass fittings and plants,” Sandstrom tells Concrete Nation. “The Concrete Nation basins complemented the palette perfectly, inserting natural, earthy colour into the space.”

Sandstrom says the custom Concrete Nation reception desk pieces together varying shades of mint, with a beautiful outcome.

“The flexibility of working with Concrete Nation to create custom pieces and colours has me excited about what we can achieve together in the future,” she says.

We can’t wait to work with you again , Emily!
