YOU know we are obsessed with design-led hotels and properties with a unique point of difference so it’s fair to say we were a little excited when we heard about Byron’s hottest new resident, Blackbird Byron.

This upscale, adults-only boutique accomodation offering opened less than a year ago, and since then guests from all over Australia have been flocking to the back hills of Mullumbimby to stay in one of the three luxurious pavilions on the sprawling property.

We had the pleasure of visiting a few weeks back and were blown away by the sleek design, country hospitality, landscape and those spectacular vistas over the hinterland to Byron Bay.

The pavilions are constructed from concrete, corten steel, timber sleepers and glass, and the interiors are contemporary yet warm with a combination of reclaimed hardwood, concrete floorings and beautiful rugs and plants.

We loved the bathroom with its Moroccan-style tiles and naked copper shower head and tapwear. The only thing missing was a Concrete Nation basin but, given the hospitality was flawless, we will forgive the owners James and Stella for that!

Lovers of design, the outdoors and those who appreciate unique, boutique spaces will adore Blackbird.
